New iMac! - Kyles TechNews Roundup ending 9th Aug 2020

This weeks on my tech-news roundup is a short and sweet read.

MacOS Big Sur Public Beta

This week Apple released the public beta version of the upcoming MacOS update. The update features a major redesign of the MacOS platform, featuring more design continuity as well as bringing all the cool iOS 14 updates to the Mac like the new widgets and message features. MacOS also features an all new notification centre as well as control centre for mac.

MacOS Big Sur sure is an exciting update however unless you can back up your Mac I wouldn’t try updating till the public release in September as it is a beta version likely to have bugs.

iOS 14 Beta 4 out

This week Apple released the 4th developer and public beta of iOS 14. Included in this update is new TV widgets for your home screen. If you want to read more about iOS 14 check out my review here: https://www.kylewilkinsononline.com/post/ios-14-first-looks

New iMac

This week Apple released a new iMac and finally after so long Apple have stopped selling it with HDD’s and a 256GB SSD is now on the standard models. You can choose to have a bigger Fusion drive instead however even though it’s a fusion drive these are much slower.

The new 27-inch model comes with a 5K retina display, a new 1080p FaceTime HD camera, speakers and mic’s making it the ultimate Zoom machine. For pro users it is also faster with better processers and graphics however it still comes with 8GB of RAM as standard and annoyingly that SSD is soldered to the logic board so it can’t be changed.
