Self-Isolating? Keep fit with just your iPhone.

With the current situation around the world many shops, theatre’s, gyms and many other businesses are shutting their doors to the public. Many people are working from home and staying indoors. This is also making it harder to keep fit as you can’t go outside or to the gym, and you can’t even get your morning commute in so you could be doing almost less than a thousand steps a day now.

So, this week I’ve decided to talk about how you can still keep fit in the house using just your iPhone. Let’s take a look at some apps first.

Seven – 7 Minute Workout

Seven is a simple and clean looking app which can provide as it says in its name. Seven-minute workouts. There are other 200 different workouts on this app and It’s also very personal you can set a goal for example I choose Keeping fit and then you can select a time of day which you want to do your workout. You get a push notification and 7 minutes later your done!

The app tries to make it fun using Instructors and by completing special achievements.

Rating on the App store*: 4.7 out of 5.

Also available on WatchOS and iPad OS.

30 Day Fitness

When signing up to this app I had to complete a quick survey about my body and what my goal was, and it eventually gave me a 30-day workout plan. The Workouts themselves were great and feature real videos on how to do the exercises.

The only disappointing thing about this app was that you are forced to signing up for the one-week trial of the premium feature which is very annoying. There is a free version of the app which I didn’t try, and it does say this in the description of the app.

Rating on the App Store*: 4.1 out of 5.

Also available on iPad OS.

Daily Yoga: Workout & Fitness

This app like it says is all about doing a bit of yoga every day. The workouts play via a video and you simply have to copy what your coach does. The app is easy to use and has a lot of different features on it and in my opinion the layout is quite similar to the Fitbit app.

The app works well with the Apple health app and I noticed when I completed a session on my iPhone it shown up afterwards in the Apple Watch activity app. The only disappointing thing with this app is the advertisements seem a little disruptive. Obviously if you subscribe to the optional premium version it removes the adverts. Buying the subscription does unlock some cool things like the HDR Apple Tv app and smart coaches.

Rating on the App Store: 4.7 out of 5

Also available on iPad OS, WatchOS and Apple TV (Additional purchase required)

Strava

Firstly, I know Strava doesn’t necessarily work indoors it is more of an outdoor app, but it does run great off your iPhone. Also, in countries outside you can still get some exercise by going for a run. AS LONG as it is not in groups, this is why things like parkrun have been cancelled across the globe.

Going for a run at the moment by yourself could be one of the best ways of clearing your head at the moment, Strava is one of the best apps in my opinion of tracking your runs (or cycling) and is a great way of also sharing your runs with your friends. They can give you kudos to keep you motivated. Strava does offer a premium version but the free version is also amazing.

Rating on the App Store: 4.8 stars out of 5

Also available on WatchOS

What other things could you do?

If you have an Apple watch the workouts app can track almost every kind of workout a lot of them being indoor workouts, from Pilates to Fitness gaming and speaking of fitness gaming. We all must have had one, now is a great time to wipe of the dust off them Nintendo Wii’s. The Wii had some of the best fitness games ever created with Wii Sports and Wii Fit you were losing weight whilst having a good time at the same time.

If you don’t have a Nintendo Wii anymore Nintendo’s newest console has a game that’s nearly as good called Ring Fit Adventure.

In all seriousness I hope you are all safe out there and I know how much of a stressful time this is for a lot of people. Hopefully you enjoyed reading this post and it helps you a little with keeping fit at home.

Thank you for reading,
