WWDC 2019 - Everything announced, an opinion.

Last Monday was Apples annual Worldwide Developers conference (WWDC) and as always they kicked off with a Live keynote at 10am in San Jose. Here is a quick summery of what was announced with my opinion on things included.

tvOS 13

tvOS is expanding even further with a slightly new design on the homepage of the device as well as multiuser support, This has upset a few people I’ve noticed because for years users have wanted multiuser support on the iPad but Apple have gone and put it on the TV with no sight of it appearing on the iPad.

One of the biggest new features available on tvOS 13 is that you can connect your PlayStation and Xbox Controllers to the system. This will be great for many people when Apple Arcade comes out in the fall and I’m sure as hell that it will boost the amount of people who subscribe to the service.

iOS 13

As expected the next iOS was called iOS 13! (Craig made a joke on stage) We finally got some of the features we were after, a gorgeous looking system wide dark mode and a volume indicator that does not take up most of the screen!

These aren’t the only new features, Reminders has been rebuilt, Notes has a new tile interface, Photos has a new design which helps reduce clutter, Photo & Video editing has a new design / features and many more new things in the new version of iOS.

I have iOS 13 already installed on my iPhone X so I’m going to write a much more in-depth look at this keep an eye out.

WatchOS 6

WatchOS is always the one I keep an eye out for every year, I love my Apple Watch and everyone I know who owns one says the same. This year we get 5 new watch faces, New Activity Trends, The watch can now chime and give a haptic feedback on the hour.

There is new Apps for the watch, Calculator, Voice memos, Noise, Cycle Tracking, an updated version of Reminders and the App Store it’s self.

Just like iOS I will be doing a separate more detailed WatchOS 6 post.

macOS Catalina

This year were heading to the coast with Catalina, and with this we say goodbye to one of my favorite (Although hated by quite a few) apps and that is iTunes.

As Craig said on stage “Why don’t we just get iTunes to do calendar and Mail too!” Obviously that would be stupid, So why should one App do all your music, Tv, Radio and syncing. Now there is three separate applications Music, Podcasts and TV.

With Catalina comes support for Arcade when it comes out and Project Catalyst which allows devoplers to easily transform there iPad apps in to macOS apps has been released for devoplers and I’m sure this will be very popular.

Other WWDC News:

- iPad now has its own separate operating system. Called iPadOS

- Apple announced a new very powerful Mac Pro which is aimed at professional users

- And with that very powerful Mac Pro they announced a very powerful desktop display called Pro Display XDR.

- And with that display comes a stand that has caused a lot of controversary with people. It’s priced at $999. (Yes that’s for a stand)

Watch out this week as I’ve got more cool stuff coming Including, Hands on posts with Watch OS 6 , Mac OS Catalina and iOS 13. Just one more thing, that background I’ve used for my thumbnail on this post is the gorgeous new desktop picture used in macOS Catalina.

Until next time
