Review: Animal Crossing New Horizons

Hello, this week I’ve decided to write a review on the new popular switch game “Animal Crossing New Horizons”. There are a lot of reviews on the internet from all the popular gaming blogging sites, but I thought I’d write a different review. The reason it’s different is I haven’t actually played Animal crossing before. So, let’s call it…

NEW to Animal Crossing so am I, let’s play…

How it begins

You begin at the helpdesk of the “Nook Inc Deserted Island Getaway package” your greeted by Tom Nook, Timmy and Tommy. This is where you build your first look and decide the name of your island.

Having done that you arrive at your island and after a rather long talk you get to decide where to put your tent and the tents of the two other animals that arrive with you. Following this you go to sleep and wake up in the real world in real time.

“If you like Sims, you’ll love this game”

This is a quote that I saw on the internet the other day when I was doing some research and I do love the Sims, but this game is nothing like the sims. One of the best things about this game is that it is all very much real time. If it’s 11am in the real world it is also 11am in the game. Certain things happen in the game depending on the time of day or even on what day.

In the game you can catch all sorts of wildlife and fill up a museum or sell it however certain types of species appear in the day and some at night. The game also changes with seasons. In the winter the game is often covered in snow and you aren’t going to be getting the same species of wildlife. The Realtime effect is something I feel makes the game really special. The only other game I’ve played that I can think of that has a little bit of Realtime sense is Pokémon Go on my phone.

It has all the cool Nintendo features

As with many popular games made by Nintendo it has all the cool technology. You can use Amiibos in the game to bring new campers to your island or you can fly to Harv’s island and take some cool pictures with them. You can’t actually bring them to your island however until you get resident services building.

The game is also compatible with the Nintendo Switch Online app. This means you can use that controversial voice chat feature (A feature no one likes as it doesn’t make sense) and you can also do some special things to enhance the game. An example of this is you can bring in designs to use as clothes or on canvases. You can make designs on AC: New Life and AC: Happy Home Designer. You can take a look on the internet and download loads of cool ones!

Something I don’t like

Something that can be quite annoying is that you can only make ONE island per switch. So, for example if you have two accounts you can’t make two islands you would both have to share it. This can be quite annoying, and you also can’t transfer save data between consoles and you can only have up to 8 islanders on the island.

My final thoughts

For someone who’s never played AC, my final thoughts are that I love it. The fact that there is so much to do and that every day and every day I look forward to seeing what Isabella (A woman in the Resident services building) has to say and what’s new on the island. At the moment is AC first special event called “bunny day” which is on the 12th. It’s had a little bit of a controversial start as too many eggs were appearing and people weren’t getting enough of the essential materials. This was really bad if you were just starting the game.

If your also new to the game like me there is a cool article on CNET which goes through 18 best AC tips! Check It out here: https://www.cnet.com/how-to/18-best-animal-crossing-new-horizons-tips-for-the-hit-nintendo-switch-game-updated/

Until next time
