My thoughts on the "TikTok ban" & More // TechNews 2nd August 2020.

A lot to talk about this week in terms of Tech-news so I’ll get right to it with my thoughts included.

TikTok

I’m sure you have already heard about TikTok and Donal Trump wanting to ban the popular app because of security issues and basically the fact the apps origin is in China. I have very mixed thoughts on this. I do understand why he wants to ban the app in terms of its issues with User’s location and metadata. However, TikTok is insanely popular in the US with many people now making a living on the app creating content for the app as well as advertisers using the app to promote content and even more TikTok has over 1,000 employees in the US.

What is quite concerning is how Trump at the moment is more worried about TikTok then COVID-19, TikTok has actually helped a lot of people out during the pandemic as it helps them escape the reality of the situation.

Dark Sky gone for Android

Dark sky a popular weather app that was acquired by Apple around March this year is no longer available on the Google Play store. It went offline on the 1st of August. On the Dark Sky Blog [1] they have said that subscribers at the time will be getting a full refund.

New Apple Store: Bangkok: Apple Central world.

This week Apple’s newest retail store opened in Bangkok, Thailand. The store itself is beautiful and I really recommended checking out this article on 9to5Mac which has a collection of pictures of the new store.

Apple’s fiscal quarter three results out this week! [3]

This week Apple posted its fiscal quarter 3 results for 2020, With the quarter ending on revenue of $59.7 Billion which is an increase in last year’s quarter results. It certainly seems like Apple aren’t struggling with COVID. Apple again haven’t posted suggestions for there quarter four results as they still aren’t sure how things are going to pan out.

iPhone 12 confirmed

to be later this year. During the conference call where they release their earnings, they confirmed that they will be releasing the newest iPhones a month later. Quite annoying as my iPhone X battery is knackered now but understandable.
