TeamTrees is a fundraiser started by YouTuber MrBeast. All the proceeds go to the Arbor Day Foundation and the plan is to plant 20,000,000 trees by 2020.
It all started as a way of MrBeast celebrating 20 million subscribers to his YouTube channel. Lots of viewers and subscribers got in touch with him and eventually the idea was born. For each $1 dollar you donate you are planting 1 tree.
Famous people are even making contributions to the goal with Tesla CEO donating 1,000,000 trees and Tobi Lutke donating 1,000,001 just out of spite. The CEO of Twitter and YouTube have also both donated a staggering number of trees to the cause.
Why should you help?
Climate change is an increasing problem, think back to August when the Amazon wildfires were all over the news and even now in Australia there is wildfires raging near Sydney. Wildfires are only a small contribution to the why trees are disappearing all the deforestation to make way for farmland is also not helping the problem.
But why is this affecting climate change, well that is because trees naturally absorb Carbon dioxide and release oxygen into the atmosphere. CO2 In the atmosphere is rising and with all the disappearing trees less CO2 is being soaked up by the trees. Leading to more and more CO2 being in the atmosphere. By donating just one dollar (Or if you’re in the UK like me as I’m writing this is equivalent to 76p.) you can plant one tree. 5 Dollars and you’ve planted 5 trees and so forth.
